Banbury–Don Mills

Don Mills is recognized as the first planned, post-war suburban development in Canada. Largely rural before 1950, the area is surrounded by ravines to the south, east and west, creating a self-contained community focused around the natural landscape.

Many of the homes were built between 1952 and 1965 with large frontages and curving, tree-lined streets. It has a mix of detached and semi mid-century bungalows and modernist ranch-style homes, now increasingly mixed with custom-designed new builds. Planners also included townhouses and low-rise apartments, and today, the area also has high-end condominium developments.

Many of the community’s original residents remain as the area is popular among families and seniors, while commuters enjoy easy access to Highway 401 and the Don Valley Parkway.

Abundant ravines are accessible through a linked system of parks and pathways throughout the neighbourhood. Residents enjoy the manicured Edwards Gardens, while Moccasin Trail Park provides more natural ravine paths. Baseball and tennis are available in Bond Park, while Three Valleys Park draws young families with a children’s playground. The Don Mills Civitan Arena provides house leagues and skating.

One of the area’s main shopping attractions is the upscale Shops at Don Mills, an outdoor mall designed with an urban village feel and featuring upscale retailers, gourmet food shops and excellent restaurants.
